Solar Geoengineering Archive 1991/2025/2059
Speculative documentary and preliminary timeline, 2025 - ...
Solar Geoengineering Archive, 1991 / 2025 / 2059 is a research-based, speculative narrative about solar radiation management. With investigations spanning the Global North and the Global South, and a focal timeline spanning the length of a human lifetime, it begins at the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines 34 years in the past, reflects the present state of Western technology in 2025, and imagines the consequences of anthropogenic stratospheric aerosol injection 34 years into the future.
Mica Cabildo’s research focuses on historical volcanic climate forcing events, cultural adaptations to hazard, and civil defense in the Philippines. Ivar Veermäe continues his conversations with scientists about technologies, models and simulations associated with solar geoengineering, and visits places and institutions, that would be necessary for the real implementation of stratospheric aerosol injection. The collaboration combines the artists’ audio calls with interviews, field recordings and other media collected from their individual investigations.
Project started in 2025 and is in process.
